ZYLARIA™ SUPPORTS GABA AND REDUCES
AMYLOID BETA IN NEURON CELLS
STUDY HIGHLIGHTS
HOW ZYLARIA™ WORKS
As nightfall approaches, the body and mind should naturally begin to relax and signal that it’s time for sleep. Unfortunately, for many people, this process does not occur due to various factors. One essential amino acid the body requires for this process is called Gamma-Aminobutyric acid (GABA) which allows the brain to communicate these important messages throughout the body.
GABA acts as a neurotransmitter in the brain, promoting relaxation in the central nervous system.1 GABA-T breaks down GABA into SSA and glutamate. Glutamate plays a role in starting and keeping our sleep/wake cycles in balance.2 GAD (glutamic acid decarboxylase) is an enzyme that plays a critical role in regulating the balance of neurotransmitters in the brain, specifically GABA. By converting glutamate to GABA, GAD helps to keep the balance of neurotransmitters in the brain in check, which is important for maintaining normal brain function, including sleep/wake cycles.
Adenosine has long been known to induce sleep via adenosine receptors.3 Finally, genistein increases the expression of brain-derived neurotrophic factor (BDNF) mRNA and protein levels.4 Several studies show that depressive subjects have low levels of BDNF in the brain. Poor sleep quality is also related to alterations in BDNF concentration.5
Six NuLiv Science in vitro studies on Zylaria™ demonstrate elevated GABA content in PC-12 neuron cells by increasing GABA content and GAD activity as well as decreasing GABA-T activity in cells. Zylaria™ also works to increase cell viability and decrease Aβ aggregation in tested cells.
