Chaga mushrooms are sought after in Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) and other ancient healing traditions to promote health and wellness. Wild chaga grows naturally in the forests of Canada, Russia, northern China, and other northern climatic zones where birch trees are found. Although often labeled as a mushroom, chaga is actually a sterile conk or canker—a mass of woody tissue with an undefined shape and darkly pigmented outer layer.

Birch trees, the primary host of chaga, contain precursor compounds like the triterpenoid betulin. Chaga draws betulin and other precursors directly from the birch tree, converting them into inotodiol, trametenolic acid, and betulinic acid— the key bioactive compounds that it is known for.*
